Home Treadmills FAQ

There are a few different categories of home treadmill that are worth looking at before you decide which will be best for your home gym. Which treadmill will be best for you will depend on the space you have available and what features you’re looking for in your treadmill workout.

If you’re looking to save as much space as possible, the best option will be Lifespan’s Walking Pad series, which is a standalone running pad without a frame or console. They’re 60% thinner than most treadmills, and are able to fold 180 degrees down the middle, meaning they can fit into just about any corner of the home.

You may also be interested in a rehabilitation treadmill, built for those with limited mobility or who are recovering from an injury. These have extended hand rails, user-friendly controls and can reach lower speeds starting at 0.3km/h, and going as high as 14km/h.

Intensify your workout with an incline treadmill, with a range of options to choose from, all with different incline levels and will be either manual or automatic. An incline forces your body to work harder, and activates more muscles in the legs, including the glutes, calves and hamstrings.

Folding treadmills give you the best of both worlds, having a sturdy frame for stability, while also being able to fold away when not in use.

For extra options and customisability, you can choose to go for a smart treadmill, which will offer a greater number features such pre-set/custom exercise programs, adaptive speed controls, app connectivity, and metric tracking.

Most of Lifespan Fitness’ treadmills will come around 90% assembled, so it won’t be long till your treadmill is up and running! Some treadmills, such as the walking pad line, won’t require any assembly, and are ready to use straight out of the box. The assembly process will differ depending on your machine, so it’s important to always consult the instructions that will come with your product to ensure you’re putting everything together correctly.

The process for most of our treadmills will involve:

  1. Unfold the frame so that it’s in an upright position.
  2. Using the tools provided, secure it in place.
  3. Then you’ll need to screw in the console. Again, all tools and hardware will be provided to secure everything in place.

Make sure to consult the production manual of your machine for extended instructions on maintenance, use and cleaning. You can also check out Lifespan Fitness’ YouTube channel for instructional videos on treadmill maintenance and troubleshooting.

There’s a reason why treadmills are an iconic piece of gym equipment, especially for the home. They offer a fun, effective and accessible aerobic workout that delivers impressive results. Their popularity also means there is a wide range to choose from, meaning there’s bound to be an option so suit your specific needs, and will fit within your home fitness space.

Running on a treadmill has many health and fitness benefits beyond just getting your heart pumping. This type of exercise is a fantastic way to boost cardiovascular health, accelerate weight loss and maintain muscle mass. Treadmill exercises are also shown to improve mental health, and you may have heard of ‘runner’s high’, a result of the release of endorphins triggered by aerobic activity.

One of the biggest advantages is how easy they are to use. Almost everybody can jump on a treadmill with very little preamble and get going. While proper running form is important, the technique won’t be as complex as many other exercise machines.

Treadmill exercises can be tailored to your workout needs. They’re effective in shorter increments, such as a quick warmup, or for more extended workouts. This gives treadmills the unique property of being appropriate to both complete beginners and hardcore trainers, especially marathon runners. Lifespan Fitness have a wide range of treadmill for almost every type of user. This includes rehabilitation treadmills and walking pads for more casual users or those with limited mobility, all the way up to advanced, smart treadmills with speeds going up to 20km/h, and a greater number of features to accelerate your workout.

There are a few different options for beginners when it comes to treadmills, and choosing the right one will depend a lot on your prior ability and fitness level, regardless of whether you’ve ever stepped foot on a treadmill before.

Another good choice for limited mobility is a rehabilitation treadmill, designed for accessible fitness regardless of age or ability. It’s important to consider your long-term fitness goals and whether you want a machine that will accommodate more advanced training as you accelerate your fitness level. After all, having a treadmill in the home will probably mean you won’t stay a beginner for long. In this case, you may want a more advanced model that can still accommodate beginners, such as our range of smart treadmills, or incline treadmills.

A great entry point for treadmills that can also be easily incorporated into your home fitness space is a walking pad or compact treadmill. These usually come as a standalone running pad without a frame or console. This a terrific option for those with little space in their home and want to be able to store away their machine when not in use. These are also a great choice for combining with a standing desk, meaning you can stay active throughout the work day in a way that’s easy and effective.

Another good choice for limited mobility is a rehabilitation treadmill, designed for accessible fitness regardless of age or ability. They feature extended handle bars and user-friendly control, as well as lower speed levels starting at 0.3km/h.

It’s also important to consider your long-term fitness goals and whether you want a machine that will accommodate more advanced training as you accelerate your fitness level. After all, having a treadmill in the home will probably mean you won’t stay a beginner for long! In this case, you may want a more advanced model that can still accommodate beginners, such as our range of smart treadmills, or incline treadmills.

If you’re intending to use your treadmill for proper, high-speed running, it’s important to find a treadmill that can accommodate a more intense workout. This means you want something with a relatively large, sturdy frame, as this will provide a more stable base as you accelerate your running. A large frame will reduce shaking and side to side wobbling, creating a more comfortable experience for your run.

Another important consideration will be the maximum speed of your machine, as this will differ between treadmills. Not all treadmills can reach those higher speeds that more advanced runners will require for their workout, so always check the speed limits of a machine you’re buying. Lifespan Fitness has treadmills that will reach up to 20km/h.

The size of the running belt will be another factor to consider. Smaller belt sizes are usually better suited to walking, as your stride length will be much shorter and narrower. If you plan on using your treadmill for running, it’s best to go for a longer and wider running belt. This will ensure your experience is comfortable and safe as your running stride will usually be much larger, especially as you fatigue.

In order to provide for the best experience, you may also consider getting a smart treadmill, which will come with a greater number of features, such as pre-set programs, metric tracking, app connectivity, and enhanced entertainment options.

For a more effective, all-round running experience, you may also consider a treadmill that has an adjustable incline. Introducing an incline will create a running experience that’s closer to outside running, and gives you the ability to simulate different conditions. An incline will lead to greater muscle activation in the legs, meaning you’ll be getting the most out of your workout.

There are a few differences between home and commercial treadmills, including the size, motor and materials used. Home treadmills provide you with a machine that can adapt to your space, and are generally more user-friendly than an advanced, commercial model.

If space and portability is at the top of your mind, you’ll love our collection of compact treadmills for home. These have the ability to slot easily into your workout space, regardless of whether you have a dedicated fitness room, or you're working out in the living room. These make for a great basic treadmill for home use, and are perfect for those you want a simple, accessible machine that requires very little calibration or maintenance. Compact home treadmills include walking pads, which are a standalone walking platform without a frame. Walking pads are 60% slimmer than an average home treadmill, as well as having the ability to fold a full 180 degrees down the middle, allowing them to be stored in just about any corner of the home. Being so low to the ground, this design makes for a safer experience of stepping on and off, reducing the risk of tripping or falling from the walking surface. This also gives them a sleek design that many users love. Walking pads are built for ultimate convenience, with adaptive speed controls that automatically adjusts speed in response to your movements in real time. Alternatively, you can set them to manual mode, controlling it remotely via your smartphone. These are diverse machines that can be incorporated into many different settings, with Lifespan offering packages inclusive of walking pads with a standing desk, so you can stay active while you work. These home treadmills also have the edge in portability, being able to easily fit in your car, so that you can take your machine with your wherever you go. While being small, these machines still boast commercial grade materials, with EVA cushioning on high-density fibreboard for maximum comfort and protection, while the DuraGrip running belt is designed to be low-friction and anti-slip.

These have the ability to be folded upright when not in use, making them a great home treadmill. Lifespan offers a selection of the best home folding treadmills, utilising HydraAssist soft drop folding technology, allowing for a simple and effortless experience when folding or unfolding your home treadmill. Once folded, most home treadmills will have transportation wheels for easy manoeuvrability and portability.

These home treadmills provide fully extended, stable hand rails on either side of the running belt with integrated speed and incline buttons as well as pulse sensors. Designed for ease of use with a large LED screen for full control, all on top of the usual high-grade materials of a Lifespan Fitness home treadmill. Speeds start as low as 0.3km/h, reaching as high as 14km/h.

Many of our home treadmills will feature options for incline variations, which allow you to accelerate your workout and easily increase intensity. Incline treadmills are one of the best treadmills for home use, as they allow the user greater control over their workout, simulating outdoor running more closely, and all from the comfort of your home. An inclined home treadmill forces the user to work harder, and activates more muscles in the legs, leading to greater results and a more intense workout.

For a more advanced option, you can choose from a range of smart home treadmills, which have a greater number of features and give you total control over your workout. These features will differ depending on your machine, but can include pre-set programs for an optimal workout, adaptive speed controls, app connectivity, metric tracking and integrated entertainment options.

Our home treadmills feature high-grade materials, including ShockControl suspension with an advanced cushioning system, providing support and reducing impact on your joints. Most electric models will be powered by a high torque EverDrive motor with efficient cooling systems and insulation. Our spacious DuraGrip running belts provide a firm, anti-static base that’s also noise reducing.

No matter what kind of user you are, and what type of fitness space you have, there’s bound to be a home treadmill that suits your needs. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to choosing the right machine, so if you’re ever lost, don’t hesitate to reach out to our friendly team and we’ll help you along your fitness journey.
