Exercise & Yoga Mats FAQ
First, you’ll notice with many of our mats there is a smooth side and one that is striped. Ensure that the smooth side of the mat is facing down, using the striped side for greater traction and comfort. We also offer double sided Yoga mats, balancing comfortable cushioning with solid ground contact. The main function of a Yoga mat is to provide grip and prevent hands and feet from slipping while in difficult poses and stretches. This will be especially helpful for holding positions in a Yoga or Pilates session, which require strong grounding to remain stable. However, you can use your mat for whatever you want, providing a comfortable base for a range of activities.
First, wipe free any dirt or detritus accumulated on your mat, then lay it flat on the ground. You can simply mix some water and dish soap, soak a rag in the soapy water and start to scrub your mat. There are special exercise mat soaps you can buy, but this isn’t totally necessary as any mild soap will do the job. After you’ve given your mat a good scrub, spray it down with some water to get rid of the soap, then hang it up to dry. Make sure you’ve air dried for at least about an hour before using it again.
